Foxridge and Hethwood Apartment Homes is excited about our recycling program. Single stream recycling containers are located throughout the community. Containers for recyclable material disposal will be located adjacent to many of our refuse dumpsters. The containers are readily identifiable with a bright yellow lid and are shorter than the trash dumpster for easy access. The containers will be labeled with the universal recycling symbol and the Town of Blacksburg recycling label. This label provides simple guidelines on what materials can be properly recycled.

The Foxridge and Hethwood Resident Policy Handbook provides information on the revised recycle program for our community. The handbook states; “Foxridge and Hethwood has locations close to your home for your single stream recycling needs. Many items used in your apartment home can and should be recycled. Proper recycling can help materials get to their next best use, which in turn saves tons upon tons of raw materials and energy. It is important to keep items for recycling clean and dry and free of food waste and debris. Guidelines for proper recycling;

Always Recycle:

  • Plastic bottles and containers
  • Food and beverage cans
  • Paper (including newspapers, magazines and mail)
  • Cardboard and paperboard (flattened)
  • Food and beverage cartons (including cereal boxes and beverage cases)
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum and metal cans

DO NOT Recycle:

  • No food waste
  • No plastic bags and film
  • No foam cups and containers
  • No needles
  • No electronics (including computers, televisions, cords and wires)

Recycling receptacles are clearly labeled and located beside refuse dumpsters. Recycling containers can be easily identified with the yellow lids as well as the blue, green and red label for quick reference to properly dispose of recyclable materials.”

Please do not use trash bags for recycled materials. Avoid contamination by ensuring all household trash goes into the larger green dumpster. Sustainability starts with each of us. We all must make a concerted effort to learn proper recycling procedures. With full participation, we can have a positive impact on our environment. For additional information, please reference the above informational card. Please contact the Welcome Center at (540) 951-1221 if you have any questions.

Duck Pond

NO ONE is allowed in or on the pond for any reason. Even when the pond may appear to be frozen over, there is no way to check the thickness and consistency of the ice. Please do not risk your safety. Along the same lines, we ask that no one throw rocks into the pond. Not only does this create a weaker “shoreline” by removing the border, but it also costs the community and ultimately each residents. It creates a budget expense as we may have to dredge the rocks out of the center and reinforce the bank. We have also agreed to allow Blacksburg Fire and Rescue to conduct training at our pond when it has frozen over. We have offered the use of our pond to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad. When our pond freezes you may see the rescue squad completing pond rescue drills. This could be completed several times during the winter months. The area will be clearly marked with emergency vehicles and signage stating that it is only a drill.
