Community Events

  • Safety Day Thursday, April 7th from 5 – 6 pm in the Briarwood Clubhouse Parking Lot. Come out to meet your local Blacksburg Police Department, Rescue Squad and Fire Department. Get an ID kit provided by Liberty Mutual and to explore the cool cars! Weather Permitting and availability of the Blacksburg Police Department, Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
  • Basketball Tournament Friday, April 8th, starting at 2 pm. Foxridge is hosting its annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament at the courts behind the 1200 building. You must be over 16 and register at the Welcome Center by April 5th. A waiver must be signed by all participants. A prize will be awarded to the winning team!
  • DMV 2 GoMonday, April 18th, 9 am – 4 pm in the Briarwood Clubhouse Parking Lot. We will have DMV’s wireless office on wheels to assist you with many things; applying for a new ID card, your driver’s license, updating your address, and many more options!
  • Hethwood Spring Yard Sale Saturday, April 23rd 7 am – Noon. Come on out and sell items you don’t need anymore and maybe you will find deal on something you do need! This yard sale will be held on the lawn area in front of the Hethwood Square Shopping Center - Close to the entrance off Hethwood Blvd. We will advertise in the Roanoke Times – The Burgs section. Please call and register with the Hethwood Foundation at 552-5252 by the 21st. As always, we appreciate Lester Development for allowing us to use the lawn area. We are always careful to follow their policy of “no cars on the grass.” Rain cancels.
  • Carry Out Dinner Friday, April 29th starting at 5 pm at the Briarwood Clubhouse. Stop by for dinner, while supplies last!
  • Hatha Yoga Class Every Monday & Wednesday from 7 – 8 pm; every 2nd & 4th Tuesday come to the Huntsman Clubhouse and enjoy a relaxing Hatha Yoga class from 6 – 7 pm w/instructor Kacy McAllister. This class is appropriate for a variety of ages and levels. Kindly show your driver’s license with your Hethwood or Foxridge address and you will get the special class rate of $5. Please remember to bring your own mat and feel free to email organizer and instructor Nicole Paglialonga if you are new or have questions at or call the Hethwood Foundation at 552-5252.
  • Hethwood Market Nights Every Tuesday come out to the Briarwood Clubhouse from 5 – 7 pm, and enjoy a Pulled Pork or Beef BBQ sandwich, chips, and a cookie for $5! Accepting cash and credit cards! *Other sandwiches may be offered*
  • Get Pizza for $5 from Dominos Every Wednesday come out to the Briarwood Clubhouse from 4:30 – 7:30 pm, and enjoy fresh, hot pizza from Dominos!
  • Health & Wellness Talks A series of Health & Wellness talks by certified Holistic Wellness instructor Erin Doty Senger. Held in the Huntsman Clubhouse on Thursdays the 14th & 28th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. FREE to all Hethwood & Foxridge residents, $10 per class for non-residents! Preregistration is required call the Hethwood Foundation at (540) 552-5252 sign up early space is limited. Sorry no refunds except in the event of cancellation.

Out and About in Blacksburg Events

  • United Way Spring Food Drive – April 1 – April 11 please help stock the United Way food pantry in Christiansburg with food for NRV Families! They are in need of Instant Potatoes, Canned Ravioli, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cereal, Oatmeal, Canned Vegetables & Fruit, Canned Meats, Granola Bars, Ramen Noodles, Soup & Crackers and Rice. The Welcome Center will have food donation boxes ready for your donation during this time! Thank you for you help and support!
  • Art Walk – Friday April 1, please join us for an evening of art in downtown Blacksburg. Gallery spaces will participate in the Art Walk which is FREE and open to all! Rain or shine. The place to be for an evening of arts and culture is Downtown Blacksburg! Hope to see you there. Details available at
  • 3.2 for 32 Run in Remembrance – April 16, 9:43am - On this day, the Virginia Tech community reflects on the vibrant lives of the 32 students and faculty who were tragically taken from us on April 16, 2007. This community run/walk throughout the campus of VT strives to bring fellow Hokies together, to feel the support of the community, and to celebrate the lives of our friends and family members. Visit to volunteer or to register to run/walk in the event.
  • Arbor Day –  Calling all volunteers! Come help make Blacksburg greener by planting trees on town-owned properties. Bring a shovel and get ready to get dirty. Individuals and groups are welcome. Saturday, April 30, 9 a.m. - noon, rain or shine, starting at the Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Tree Nursery, 615 Patrick Henry Dr. Planting sites will vary.   • Shred-A-Thon – Saturday, April 30, 9 a.m. - noon, 615 Patrick Henry Dr. Bring your papers for shredding. Reduce the risk of identity theft and keep recyclable paper out of the landfill. For more information, please contact the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling at 540-961-1806 or
  • Hethwood Market – Come out to the Hethwood Market on Monday nights for BBQ, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for a take out dinner, and Thursdays for pork ribs. Check out the Hethwood Market calendar on their Facebook Page for menus, live local artists, and their planned wine/beer tastings from local vineyards and breweries.

Be a lifeguard! We are now accepting applications online for lifeguards for the 2016 pool season. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and have a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent. Applications can but submitted by visiting the Hethwood Foundation website at Contact the Hethwood Foundation office if you have any questions at 552-5252 with questions about the application process or about Lifeguard training. Pay is $8-$11/hr. depending on experience.

Domino’s Blacksburg is Hiring Delivery Experts! Are you ready to be part of the action? Do you like money in your pocket? Community Construction

The gas utility company, Atmos, is working throughout our Foxridge & Hethwood Community on a necessary upgrade to the gas lines. Thank you for your patience and pardon the mess while they complete their work.

Dog Reminder

As the weather gets warmer, we encourage residents to take advantage of the nature trails. For the safety and well-being of all residents, and in accordance with the Pet Policy and Blacksburg Town Ordinance, please remember that all dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Please also remember to pick up after your pet so we can keep our community clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Weed Control & Fertilization

Tru-Green will be coming to complete spring weed control & fertilization of the common areas. Please watch for the Tru-Green warning flags to stay off the grass. All chemicals used are EPA approved and, as always, SDS information sheets will be available in the Hethwood Foundation office.
