Inexpensive Storage Ideas for Apartments - Blacksburg, VA

Joseph Coupal - Monday, April 28, 2014

It is Spring, and this is the time of year when we start to want to clean our apartments in Blacksburg, VA and get rid of clutter. It has been called “Spring Cleaning” for a reason. We could all use the extra  space. Do you need better storage solutions for your apartment? Here are a few ideas on how to keep your space more organized.

Clear canisters

You could either buy canisters or you could wash out empty tomato sauce and pickle jars and achieve the same effect. Jars and canisters are great for storing small pieces like Legos or bouncy balls. The clear glass means you don't have to hunt for what you need, you can tell at a glance what it holds.

Storage Ottoman

Another longtime favorite, the storage ottoman is fantastic, concealed storage for any room of the house. In bright colors, they can suit a child's bedroom or your living room.

Hanging Pails

Pails make great storage solutions because they're transportable from room to room for easy play and easier cleanup. Repurpose the sand toys your child no longer uses (or even just give them a purpose in the winter) or purchase plastic pails in late spring, when they're in every drugstore summer aisle.

Hanging them from the wall or the side of a bookcase keeps them out of the way and easy to reach.

The Ladder Wardrobe

The ladder-as-wardrobe is especially handy for those who have kids who share a room so may run short on closet space. Hang baby clothes from the rungs or combine multiple storage solutions and use shower curtain hooks to hang mini pails to hold hair accessories, shoes, rolled tees and pants and more.

Hanging Shoe Rack

The hanging shoe rack-turned-toy-holder has ingenious space-saving properties. Hang it on the back of a door (inside the closet, and pop in dolls, cars, balls or maybe shoes.

Pizza box art

Instead of letting the artwork pile up, label pizza boxes with a year or season to keep your child's artwork flat and organized. If your pizza box is too gross ask for a spare the next time you're in the pizza parlor.

Mounted Cans

This handy storage solution for art supplies and small toys reuses old, clean soup cans. Just soak the can until you can remove the label, take off the top and punch a hole in the back with a nail. Then use tacks to secure the cans to a bulletin board, or poke big enough holes to hang them on adhesive hooks.
