Regardless of your age, or whether or not you celebrate Easter, it is still fun to have an egg hunt! If you are having your Easter egg hunt this weekend with friends in your apartments in Blacksburg, VA then you want the best, brightest, colored Easter eggs. Follow these instructions.
Perfect hard-boiled eggs: Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. The tops of the eggs should be covered by at least an inch of water.
Bring the water to a full boil, uncovered, and then remove the pot from the heat and cover. Let the pot stand for 17 minutes.
Remove the boiled eggs from the hot water and put them in a bowl of cold water for 15 minutes.
What you need for coloring eggs:
- Hard boiled eggs
- Paper towel or newspaper
- Bowl or cup deep enough to completely submerge an egg
- Tongs, egg dipper, or slotted spoon
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- Liquid food coloring (about 20 drops per color)
Start with cool hard-boiled eggs.
Protect your surface by covering with a sheet of newspaper or paper towel.
Fill container with the mixture of water, vinegar, and food coloring, about 20 drops of color/1/2 C of water.
Place egg on spoon and dunk, turning occasionally so both sides get color. Keep in liquid for at least 5 minutes, but leave the eggs in longer if you want a darker, brighter color.
Carefully remove the egg and set aside to dry.
